2016
Belize Hurricanes
Current Team
Our franchise is built around two proven current superstars and three up and coming young stars. Our rooster now boasts the last three MVP in Belize basketball over the past two years with the signing of NEBL 2014 MVP in the person of Center/Forward superstar Faron Loriano.
However, leaving nothing to chance, the Hurricanes were able to secure the services of two time NEDBL Champion and 2015 MVP in the person of the franchise cornerstone and most sought after free agent Small Forward Darwin “Puppy” Leslie.
Hurricanes boasts a youth movement that is hilighted by Brian “Beso” White who is considered the cornerstone that will be the future of the Hurricanes. Fresh of his 2015 Firm's League MVP performance, Brian has proven that though he is dubbed the future; his time is now.
He is joined in the front court by the number one overall selection in the 2015 Belmopan Active Youths national under 21 draft selection, and highschool dunking legend Akeem Watters. This high flying highlight reel will be prominently fetured in this year resurgent team and brings charm, talent, character and athleticism to the franchise. The youth movement and future of the hurricanes is capped off with point guard extraordinaire Clency "Coope" Lopez. This high school phenom is fresh off an MVP performance in the 2015 Becol U19 Tournament and a 50 point performance in this year's High School Belize Central Championship. This young but hungry category three combination alone is enough to fill the arena with their high tempo high flying playing style of the dynamic trio.
Dubbed by basketball insiders as the “All Star” team, this group is now earmarked as the odds on favorite to win the 2016 NEBL campaign and bring the Championship back to Belize City after an almost 10 year absence.
